This item:Parallel Lines, Plastic Letters by Blondie Audio CD £. 4. Only 2 left in stock. The marriage of sometimes witty, always intelligent lyrics and clever melodies make a classic album that has aged very well. At least four chart hits were lifted from this album, but there could've been more. The follow-up was more polished. Picture This and Sunday Girl are evocative numbers with an undertone of sadness, somewhat in a 60's vein, while Heart Of Glass is of course the hypnotic mega selling pop disco hit, later covered by The Associates among others.

Blondie have a strong grasp of pop music that not only is radio-friendly but also wildly listenable and enjoyable. This is likely one of the better pop albums I've listened to this year, and this is driven by strong songwriting and a gripping vocalist.
Blondie’s second album, Plastic Letters, is sandwiched between their self-titled retro-pop debut and their worldwide commercial breakthrough third album, Parallel Lines. It’s often overlooked as the middle child of the band’s opening trilogy. The hits were a remake of the 1963 Randy & The Rainbows hit Denise (performed as Denis to make it more gender-appropriate for singer Deborah Harry) and the excellent new wave–signifying (I’m Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear, written by bassist Gary Valentine (who left the group for a solo career before the recording of the album)
Blondie turned to British pop producer Mike Chapman for their third album, on which they abandoned any pretensions to new wave legitimacy (just in time, given the decline of the new wave) and emerged as a pure pop band.
Parallel Lines is the third studio album by the American rock band Blondie. It was released in September 1978 by Chrysalis Records to international commercial success. The album reached No. 1 in the United Kingdom in February 1979 and proved to be the band's commercial breakthrough in the United States, where it reached No. 6 in April 1979. As of 2008, the album had sold over 20 million copies worldwide. The album spawned several successful singles, notably the international hit "Heart of Glass", and the top 40 hit "One Way or Another". In February 1978, Blondie released their second studio album Plastic Letters. It was their last album produced by Richard Gottehrer whose sound had formed the basis of Blondie's new wave and punk output. During a tour of the west coast of the US in support of Plastic Letters, Blondie encountered Australian producer Mike Chapman in California.
