Highway 61 Revisited" is the title track of Bob Dylan's 1965 album Highway 61 Revisited. It was also released as the B-side to the single "Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?" later the same year. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked the song as number 373 in their 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Highway 61 runs from Duluth, Minnesota, where Bob Dylan grew up in the 1940s and 1950s down to New Orleans, Louisiana.

4 Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde. 5 Motorcycle accident and reclusion. Dylan's late March 1965 album Bringing It All Back Home was another leap, featuring his first recordings with electric instruments, under producer Tom Wilson's guidance. The first single, "Subterranean Homesick Blues", owed much to Chuck Berry's "Too Much Monkey Business"; its free association lyrics described as harkening back to the energy of beat poetry and as a. forerunner of rap and hip-hop.

In advance of the release, Bob Egan, the rock scholar behind PopSpots, is telling the stories behind the covers of these landmark LPs in a series of mini documentaries. Last month, we premiered a video focused on Bringing It All Back Home, and today, we present Egan’s piece on Highway 61 Revisited. The famous image came about when Dylan sat down on the front stoop, in front of the apartment building’s ornate doorway. Sizing up the shot, Kramer felt that the background was all naked, so he asked Dylan’s friend Bob Neuwirth to stand behind the singer. Kramer then handed Neuwirth one of his cameras.

Every format has its advantages, but any vinyl freak would be appreciative. The music on these, well, you probably know it well. Two of the really great albums in rock and roll history. Bob writing as only he can. The musicians cooked, especially Mike Bloomfield on guitar. This stuff, to me, is the textbook on what a rock and roll band should sound like. Even when they’re out of tune, it sounds good! Remember, it’s vinyl, and for vinyl freaks. And you can actually read the liner notes without a magnifying glass.

Two other albums that were part of this musical revolution are undoubtedly Bob Dylan’s own ‘Highway 61 revisited’ which contains a new level of complexity and also one of the first (if not the first) pop tracks to skip the 10 minute mark, and ‘Blonde on Blonde’ which is the first double album in rock music history. Bring it All Back Home’ was what gave space for all of this to happen, and therefore is easily one of the most influential albums of all time. Bringing It All Back Home Q&A.

Most critics I have read prefer Blonde on Blonde but I prefer Highway 61 Revisited because it is the first Dylan album I bought and it was such a landmark album of the time. In 1965 music was drastically changing and Dylan led the way along with a few groups like the Beatles. This album was a huge influence on that change. The Beatles, The Byrds and numerous other groups experimented with folk rock but this album was the king. Source(s): Mike H Music Man in New Orleans · 9 years ago.
