Irish Heartbeat is the eighteenth studio album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison and is a collaboration with the traditional Irish musical group the Chieftains, released in 1988. It was recorded at Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin, Ireland, and reached number 18 in the UK album charts. The album was recorded on dates from September to December 1987 and in January 1988. The Chieftains and Van Morrison had met years before at the Edinburgh rock festival.
On their wide musical journeys in the '80s, the Chieftains decided to collaborate with Van Morrison, who had an artistic peak at the end of the decade. The result was a highlight in both of their '80s productions: the traditional Irish Heartbeat, with Morrison on lead vocals and a guest appearance from the Mary Black. Morrisonand Moloney's production puts the vocals up front with a sparse background, sometimes with a backdrop of intertwining strings and flutes, the same way Morrison would later use the Chieftains on his Hymns to the Silence.

Reissued, Remastered. It's not often mentioned as one of Van Morrison's signature performances, but the highpoint of this 1988 collaboration-a heartbreaking rendition of the traditional tune s with anything the man has done. Morrison delivers the deathbed lament with a mix of fervor and penitence that's utterly convincing as the Chieftains enshroud him in a Gaelic tapestry of sound. Both sons of Ireland together. this album is quite nice. No burn down the empire, dam the Brits just good folksy tunes of the classic nature with limited electronics and instrumentation of the old sod. Great album for any lover of Irish songs Best of both genres.
