Exclusive Prime pricing. The Very Best Of Ed Ames. Mr. Ames's forte is ballads, and this collection has some of the best ever written. There isn't a bad song in the bunch and the recording quality is excellent. The first two songs are sung in a deep and dramatic way that is fine for their style. Try To Remember" and "A Man And A Woman" are both done in this more theatrical mode, showing that Mr. Ames can really belt out his vocals. The rest of the tunes are rendered in a more natural way that really shows off his range and control to the best advantage.
The Very Best of Ed Ames might seem like a skimpy anthology with only 14 tracks, but it is an excellent distillation of this classic pop singer's solo recordings. Ames, having come from the barbershop-style Ames Brothers quartet, offered pop standards, continental pop, show tunes, and adult contemporary music on his solo albums, but his hits were mostly in a contemporary vein. Ames' foray into country music yielded a winner with his version of Jerry Reed's "A Thing Called Love," and a few of the cuts here are in a similar country-pop style. He is best known for his pop and adult contemporary hits of the 1960s like "When the Snow is on the Roses" and the perennial "My Cup Runneth Over". He was part of a popular 1950s singing group called The Ame. ore . Year: 2000.
