Folklore is the second studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Nelly Furtado. It was released on 23 November 2003 through DreamWorks Records. While the album did not match the success of her previous album in such markets as the United States and Australia, it did however become a success in several European countries. Folklore spawned five singles: "Powerless (Say What You Want)", "Try", "Força", "Explode" and "The Grass Is Green". The album has sold three million copies worldwide.
Nelly Furtado first appeared on the music scene with the release of her incredible debut album ‘Whoa Nelly!’ back in 2000. Tracks like ‘Maneater’ and ‘Promiscuous’ stamped Furtado on the 00’s music scene. Her Timbaland-produced sound became a format that saw many acts follow suit in the following years (queue Britney Spears’ ‘Blackout’ album in 2007). Since Furtado’s debut in 2000 to her peak in 2006 to subsequent releases such as 2012’s ‘Spirit Indestructible’, her influence on the music industry has never left. Furtado, a Latin-Canadian, is one of the pioneers of modern Latin artists creating music that isn’t sectioned into just ‘Latin’ or ‘Latin-pop’. Nelly Furtado became a household name in mainstream pop and R&B, enabling modern acts such as Camilla Cabello, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez to be able to thrive.

Genre-defying Canadian chanteuse whose songwriting scored enchanting pop hits of every shade during the 2000s.
Nelly Furtado’s debut album, Whoa, Nelly! surfaced late 2000, slowly building in its success, gaining a support slot with Moby in the process. Yet it was with the success of the single, I’m Like a Bird, that Furtado was to establish herself in the pop world, eventually going on to be awarded with a Grammy Award for ‘Song of the Year. Other hits from the album included the reggae-tinged Turn Off the Light, with the surprise success of this single in Jamaica prompting Furtado to release a reggae-mixed version of her album for this market.
There's a little bit more of an alternative influence on this new album," Furtado says. It's definitely inspired by a lot of the new music that's coming out right no. Back To Best Bets Main.
