Big Bam Boom is the twelfth studio album by Daryl Hall & John Oates, released by RCA Records on October 12, 1984. The album foreshadowed what was to come in a few years for the duo, as they shed their previous producer Christopher Bond and went with a more polished sound with David Foster. Along the Red Ledge was the first studio album on which Hall & Oates used their road band, a trend they would carry through their heyday of the early 1980s. Crowned as the most successful pop duo of all time by the RIAA in 1984 'a title they retain today' Daryl Hall & John Oates remain highly active and visible on stage, in the studio, and on television. Their songs are part of the cultural fabric of American radio

The early releases of Hall & Oates show an ironing out of their sound, finding out what worked and what didn’t and defining themselves by that sound, which drew from folk, soul, rock and pop influences. Working with producers Arif Mardin and Todd Rundgren on the early albums Whole Oates (1972), Abandoned Luncheonette (1973), and War Babies (1974) they removed many of the folk elements, and despite big name producers the band achieved on limited commercial success. The late ‘70s brought a more rock-incorporated style into Hall & Oates’ blue-eyes soul, however the new sound didn’t. Hall is unbelievably 71 years old and Oates is 69 and both look amazing. Their back catalogue is the songbook of my generation with a plethora of hits throughout the eighties.
