Benedict F. Medley was the ladies’ man of the Medley Bros. Suave, funny, and with an extensive vocabulary he was never afraid to use, Ben was also a true entrepreneur, even owning local Kentucky drinking establishments. Ben didn’t marry until he was nearly 50, and wore his string tie in a traditional four-in-hand fashion. A lifelong fixture at the company, John supervised purchasing, bottling, and was the Medley Distilling Company treasurer. John wore his string tie in a traditional bow tie fashion. The burliest of the five Medley Brothers, Edwin W. Medley was also the most casual, often eschewing a tie during his work with Medley Distilling Company. During World War II, when the US Government used all local Kentucky dried timber for the war effort, Eddie ran the Medley Bros. own standing timber operation, which allowed them to have dry oak for aging bourbon.

Charles D'Almaine was born in Hull, England on June 13, 1871. He grew up an orphan in the London area. At some point he came to the United States and played first violin at the Grand Opera House in Chicago in the 1890s. He married his second wife, Cornelia Helen (d. September 25, 1933, known as "Helen") on December 24, 1897. After his marriage he stayed in Chicago a short time to teach violin students. In 1898 he relocated to New York City, the only major recording center of the time. Among his most popular recordings were "Shepherd's Dance", a 1902 release on cylinder for Edison, and "Medley of Old-Time Reels", a 1906 release on a 12-inch Victor disc.
