Diana Ross & the Supremes: Greatest Hits (also released as The Supremes: Greatest Hits) is a two-LP collection of singles and b-sides recorded by The Supremes, released by Motown in August 1967 (see 1967 in music).

According to Mary Wilson, Berry Gordy had last-minute reservations about having Terrell replace Ross, as she was more independent and headstrong than Ross had been. Gordy called Wilson during the early morning hours following the final show, and informed her that he was going to instead replace Ross with his original choice for a Ross replacement, Syreeta Wright. The Supremes carried on through the middle of the decade, briefly enjoying disco hits, concert touring, and television appearances, before finally disbanding officially in 1977. Rumors About The Video Recording. Motown signed a deal with NBC to do 3 TV specials with The Supremes, two were TCB and GIT on Broadway with the third still remaining.

Mentored and funded by Jenkins, the Primettes began by performing hit songs by artists such as Ray Charles, and the Drifters as sock hops, social clubs and talent shows around the Detroit area. With her friends Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard, and Barbara Martin, Ross formed the Primettes vocal quartet in 1959. In 1960, they were signed to local Motown Records, changing their name to the Supremes in 1961. Martin then left, and the group continued as a trio. Over the next eight years, the Supremes (renamed Diana Ross and the Supremes in 1967, when Cindy Birdsong replaced Ballard) scored 12 number one pop hits. After the last one, Someday We’ll Be Together (October 1969), Ross launched a solo career.
