An Ian Anderson solo album can, as far as I am concerned, never be compared with a Jethro Tull album. The only similarities is the flute sound and the vocals. This solo album from Ian Anderson came as quite a pleasant surprise. After more then 20 years of tedious albums, it's finally something worth sitting through. It's nearly not as good as the first few Tull albums and Songs From The Wood, but it's sure more inspired then the main bulk of Tull albums out there.

Ian Anderson practically invented the folky flute rock sound that is prevalent throughout his long career. But of course his music is more than just the style heard on 'Tull classics such as Fat Man, Teacher, Witches Promise, Bungle in the Jungle, Cross Eyed Mary and of course, Thick as a Brick (I recommend all of these songs, by the way). Throughout this very musically diverse album, you hear many different musical influences. Ian Anderson's singing, flute melodies, and unique vocals are very pleasing and the song sets the mood and warms up the listener for quite an impressive and enjoyable album.

The songs themselves are just marvelous, and this CD is the acoustic Ian Anderson album lots of us have been waiting a long time for. Andrew Giddings does a nice job of musical support all around.

His first solo album, 1983's Walk into Light, was marred by its full embrace of sterile '80s production in lieu of rusticity. While his second effort, 1995's Divinities, was a move in the right direction and a sonic precursor to the set at hand, it still was held back by its conscious decision to downplay Anderson's obvious acoustic heritage for a more classical bent.
