Peter Allen - I Could Have Been A Sailor download album

I Could Have Been A Sailor.

I could have been a sailor Rollin' through the night My sails before the wind Where the star's my only light. I could have been a dreamer Yeah, but dreams just fall apart So, I settled for safer harbors of my heart. And I take pleasure in my quiet Hearth and happy home I never gave my heart Its chance to roam. I could have been a sailor And sailed the seven seas Is the wind in your face all day And can you taste the salty breeze? I could have been a dreamer And watch the waves before me part But I settled for safer harbors

I Could Have Been a Sailor was Peter Allen's fifth studio album, and his third for A&M Records. It followed the double-album live release, It Is Time for Peter Allen (1977), on the same label. The album is notable for its association with producer Marvin Hamlisch. Allen also performs his versions of two songs he co-wrote with Carol Bayer-Sager, "Don't Cry Out Loud" and "I'd Rather Leave While I'm in Love". Don't Cry Out Loud" had been popularized by Melissa Manchester prior to Allen's release  . All tracks composed by Peter Allen; except where indicated. I Could Have Been a Sailor". I could have been a sailor And sailed the seven seas The wind in my face all day Can you taste the salty breeze? I could have been a lover Watchin' waves before me part But I settled for safer harbors of my heart. I'm a lucky man I'm the envy of my peers I never ask for favors Oh, and I never show my fears. Surrounded by too many friends I am a one-man band With all the trappings of a life Lived second-hand. I could have been a sailor Rollin' through the night My sails before the wind Where the star's my only light

In the 1970s, Peter Allen gained recognition both as a composer of romantic ballads such as "I Honestly Love You" and "Don't Cry Out Loud" and, contrastingly, as a flamboyant stage performer. He learned to play the piano and began entertaining people at the pub in his small Australian hometown when he was still a child. His version of the song was featured on his fourth A&M album, I Could Have Been a Sailor, which became his first LP to reach the charts in 1979. Early in the year, Pablo Cruise scored an American chart entry with "I Go to Rio," and Rita Coolidge reached the Top 40 with a more typical Allen-Sager ballad, "I'd Rather Leave While I'm in Love," at the end of the year. Meanwhile, Allen took his stage act to Broadway, appearing in his own show, Up in One, More Than a Concert.
