Even played like this, though, they don't sound like "normal" techno: they're warped, muted, blown out- they sound wrong Despite the surface similarities between We Stay Together and Passed Me By, it doesn't feel like Stott is repeating himself. Both records may seem like hellish vultures picking over the carcass of dance music, but every track on the new record yields fresh morsels. Fans of Stott's labelmates Demdike Stare, and all the other goth-n-screw artists out there at the moment, will be happy to gnaw on these bones.

We Stay Together' is a brand new doublepack from Andy Stott, a companion piece of sorts to the radical inversions of the 'Passed Me By' EP released earlier this year. Its predecessor left many heads dazed upon impact - in the best possible sense - and these six tracks, produced in its wake, amp the pressure to throttling degrees. Fully submerged by 'We Stay Together (Part One)' time becomes elasticated like worn VHS tape, calling to mind Jamal Moss and James Ferraro soundtracking a rave in a sodden, flooded sauna, before inescapably tumbling into the sheer black hole of 'Cherry Eye' and left to the slompy jack of 'Cracked'. Blatantly, we rate this record massively, and although it's not for everyone, those looking for a more visceral, intense form of dancefloor pressure would do very well to check in. Released by: Modern Love. Album release date: 3 October 2011.

Luxury Problems is the second studio album by English techno musician Andy Stott. It was released in November 2012 under Modern Love Records. Stott's EP Passed By Me (2011) marks the beginning of the part of his discography where he made tracks with a less dub techno-tinged style that defined his previous records, opting instead for a much more bass-heavy sound a la Sunn O))) and Demdike Stare, slower tempos, and more abstract arrangements.

Andy Stott's experimental techno, as heard on the 2011 double-pack 12" releases Passed Me By and We Stay Together - combined and expanded for this two-disc set - is mutant in two senses. Through 2010, Stott often stuck to straightforward dub techno or lean tech-house that was of high quality but provoked numerous comparisons, from dub techno pioneers Basic Channel to Modern Love labelmate Claro Intelecto.

We Stay Together picks up where 2011’s Passed Me By left off a few months prior: woozy tempos, sullen moods, and cavernous reverb. Submission is an ambient sketch drawn from what might be locomotive and steam whistle; Posers and Bad Wires pile soot on slow-motion techno. The atmosphere is almost suffocating and the sound quality intentionally degraded: Cracked could be a cassette dub of a warped VHS tape of a cement mixer (bounced down to lossy cell-phone video, for good measure). In other words, gloriously no-fi. We Stay Together - EP Andy Stott.
