12 Songs of Christmas is a 1964 album of Christmas music by Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians. The artists had previously collaborated for the album America, I Hear You Singing, released earlier the same year.

Something's Gotta Give" is a popular song with words and music by Johnny Mercer in 1954. It was published in 1955. It was written for and first performed by Fred Astaire in the 1955 musical film Daddy Long Legs, and was nominated for an Academy Award in 1955 as Best Original Song, losing to "Love is a Many Splendored Thing" Frank Sinatra recorded the song in 1959 on his album Come Dance with Me! and it was featured in the incomplete 37-minute 1962 film Something's Got to Give, which was Marilyn Monroe's last work, the film being abandoned after her death.

Rod McKuen, a prolific poet and songwriter who died at age 81 on Thursday, made a name for himself in the '60s, but his surprising career stretched to just before his death, as he worked with artists from Frank Sinatra to Madonna. McKuen won a Grammy Award for best spoken word recording for his Lonesome Cities album, which peaked at No. 175 on the Billboard 200 chart. It was one of nine charting albums for the artist, all earned between 1968 and 1971. He reached the top 100 with Rod McKuen at Carnegie Hall (No. 96 in 1969), which spent 16 weeks on the list (his longest run on the tally). The latter song was from Sinatra's A Man Alone album, comprised entirely of songs written by McKuen for Sinatra (at Sinatra's personal request).

There are also Christmas songs and a couple of tunes that also feature vocalist Dick Haymes, letting you know that this package is firmly targeted toward the serious '40s vocals fan. It's not the first (or second) preferred purchase for fans of either Crosby or the Andrews Sisters. On the other hand, if your interest in either Crosby or the Andrews is serious enough to warrant more than a greatest-hits CD, you'll likely enjoy this reissue.
