Archaeology is the second album by parody band The Rutles. Like their previous release, the album contains pastiches of Beatles songs. Three of the four musicians who had created the soundtrack for the 1978 film – Neil Innes, John Halsey, and Ricky Fataar – reunited in 1996 and recorded a second album, Archaeology, an affectionate send-up of The Beatles Anthology albums (although its original cover design rather parodied that of The Beatles' singles compilation Past Masters: Volume One).

Redirected from The Rutles (soundtrack)). The Rutles is a soundtrack album to the 1978 telemovie All You Need Is Cash. The album contains 14 of the tongue-in-cheek pastiches of Beatles songs that were featured in the film. The primary creative force of the Rutles' music was Neil Innes, the sole composer and arranger of the songs.

The primary creative force of the Rutles music was Neil Innes, the sole composer and arranger of the songs. Innes had been the 'seventh' member of Monty Python, as well as one of the main artists behind the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band in the late 1960s, who had been featured in the real Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour movie performing "Death Cab For Cutie".

The Rutles began with Monty Python's Flying Circus member Eric Idle. His initial flash on the concept was as a short-lived BBC series, titled Rutland Weekend Television. Joining Idle on a regular basis was former Bonzo Dog Band member Neil Innes - whose seemingly innate musical abilities would also adorn latter-era Monty Python performances.

This led to a Rutles reunion album in 19. .6, featuring Innes, Fataar and Halsey. Halsall died in 1992, but the reunion album, entitled Archaeology (a play on the Beatles' Anthology series), featured several tracks recorded in 1978 that included his contributions. The film features an even bigger number of celebrity interviewees discussing the band's influence. In the graphic novel, the Rutles are saved by Superman after their car nearly plummets from the top of a car park. In 2007, a reissue of Archaeology included a new Rutles track called "Rut-a-lot", which was simply a live medley of songs from the first Rutles album. On 17 March 2008, all four Rutles reunited for the first time at a 30th anniversary screening of All You Need Is Cash at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

Album · 1978 · 20 Songs. A few years before Spinal Tap, ace comedians Neil Innes and Eric Idle conceived The Rutles, an imaginary band that satirized the mythology surrounding The Beatles. This collection, featuring music from the 1978 mockumentary All You Need Is Cash, artfully toes the line between savage send-up and loving tribute. Cheese and Onions and Ouch! show off the group’s knack for penning tunes that sound like authentic artifacts from the ’60s, yet are utterly ridiculous. The Rutles The Rutles.
