Duane Eddy (born April 26, 1938) is an American guitarist. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he had a string of hit records produced by Lee Hazlewood which were noted for their characteristically "twangy" sound, including "Rebel Rouser", "Peter Gunn", and "Because They're Young". He had sold 12 million records by 1963. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, and the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2008.

It is hard to overestimate the influence Duane Eddy had on the rock instrumental groups that proliferated in the late 50s and early 60s. There were plenty of musicians playing rock'n'roll before he came along, but Duane was the first instrumentalist to achieve pop star status. His spell at Jami Records resulted in no less than 20 entries in Billboard's Top 100 chart between 1958 and 1961, bringing the guitar to the fore as a potent rock'n'roll symbol and inspiring and influencing most of the musicians in the surf genre.

Several of the tracks were produced by Paul McCartney, Jeff Lynne, Ry Cooder, and Art of Noise. Guest artists and musicians included John Fogerty, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ry Cooder, James Burton, David Lindley, Phil Pickett, Steve Cropper, and original Rebels, Larry Knechtel and Jim Horn. The album included a cover of Paul McCartney’s 1979 instrumental, Rockestra Theme. Last updated on September 6, 2016.
Originally released in the late '80s, Duane Eddy: His Twangy Guitar and the Rebels collects ten cuts from the original "Rebel Rouser," all of which are new recordings produced by "friends" like Paul McCartney, Jeff Lynne, Ry Cooder, and Anne Dudley. As one would expect, the production values are indicative of the era (Dudley's work echoes Peter Gunn-era Art of Noise and McCartney reworks the sound of his dreadful Press to Play album).
