The Creek Drank the Cradle is the debut studio album by American musician Iron & Wine (aka Sam Beam). It was released on September 24, 2002. The vinyl LP release came with a bonus 7" vinyl single. The promo CD for this album was released in a cardboard sleeve with alternate artwork.

While Beam has a long way to go before joining these visionaries, The Creek Drank the Cradle is a good enough start to make you forget anything you ever knew about the man. The music speaks for itself, and for Beam's talent. The gentle acoustic plucking that ushers in the opener, "Lion's Mane", may not grab your attention, but Beam's delicate, hushed vocals sure will. His lyrics, meanwhile, tread familiar territory without sounding too familiar

I have a very peculiar copy of this. The sleeve is Creek Drank the Cradle. The record plays Creek Drank the Cradle. But the labels for sides A and B are labels for Our Endless Numbered Days. Does anyone else have a copy like this?

Iron & Wine consists of singer/songwriter Sam Beam: a beautifully hushed voice slightly contrasting with a grizzly beard (think Doug Martsch form Built to Spill) over an acoustic guitar and the occasional twanging of a banjo. Beam hails from Miami and when he's not recording or on tour, he's teaching Cinematography at a local college. Pros Relaxing Filled with wonderful lyrics Beautiful quiet vocals.

A deep atmospheric album that really embodies Iron and Wine's beautiful Southern Gothic sound. It describes a world of simplicity, beauty, and melancholy just every other Iron Wine album with one exception "The Creek Drank the the Cradle" seems to COME FROM the world that Sam Beam describes in his Ballads. To listen is to be transported there. More to the point, this album is an amazing addition to any Vinyl collection. While many modern vinyl albums seem like tacky afterthoughts to the CD, "The Creek Drank the Cradle" only feels authentic as a phonograph

Is this a noisy pressing? How does it sound compared to the standard black pressing?

This is still available at Newbury Comics for $25.99. Don't pay more here yet.

Felt I should mention to people that this release is a lossy mastering.

There is an entry for the mispress version of this album. You might want to make sure you "inventoried" the right version.
