The album is warm and relaxed, featuring lush renditions of "Winter Wonderland", "The Christmas Song", "O Holy Night" and seven other Christmas tunes (including a re-recording of Como's own 1954 hit, "Home for the Holidays")
Como Swings was Perry Como's fifth RCA Victor 12" long-play album, released in 1959. The album's concept was one of lively swing arrangements of standards from the Great American Songbook. The album was, in part, recorded to showcase RCA Victor's new Living Stereo recording process and test the limits of the new technology. Dream Along with Me (I'm on My Way to a Star). Today was Perry Como's 29th and final album for RCA Records and of his 50-year music career. This is also the penultimate recording ever made by Perry Como, the last being for a Christmas special in 1994. This album is also significant in that it was the first and only album of Como's career to be released contemporaneously in both vinyl LP format and compact disc. The song "Wind Beneath My Wings", recorded for this album in 1987, two years before it was a hit for Bette Midler, was meant to be somewhat autobiographical.

And Perry Como was one of them. I guess we came from a different mold, but there were only a few holidays that really meant anything to us. Christmas was pretty much near the top. Not because of the gifts we were looking forward to get (or give), but because of the atmosphere it produced. This is a very nice collection of Perry Como's Christmas songs which, if you like Perry Como, you'll enjoy very much. There was only on jarring note in this collection, and that was in "Christmas Dream. I'm sorry, but his German leaves a bit to be desired. This is a wonderful album and we're so pleased that we now have it. Anyone wanting a calm, heartwarming Christmas season evening, will love this album. Put the tree lights on, light some candles, sit back and relax.
Como recorded the song again in 1959 for his Season's Greetings From Perry Como album, which features a different arrangement and accompaniment from the Mitchell Ayres Orchestra and the Ray Charles Singers. Both versions are staples of Christmas compilations and are frequently played on the radio during the season. Around a decade earlier, Bing Crosby debuted "I'll Be Home for Christmas," a melancholy Christmas standard about a soldier stationed overseas who dreams of coming home for the holidays.
