Barnabas was a Christian hard rock band that was active from 1977 through 1987. The name of the band was in honor of the New Testament disciple Barnabas. Originating out of the Jesus movement of the 1970s, they are considered one of the pioneers of Christian hard rock and heavy metal, along with Agape, Daniel Band, Jerusalem, and Resurrection Band. Over their career as a band, Barnabas was based in Los Angeles, Schaumburg, Illinois, Des Moines, Iowa, and Edmond, Oklahoma. Barnabas recorded five studio albums and played a relatively small number of concerts . Hear The Light, Find Your Heart A Home (CD, Comp). Millenium Eight Records.
On Find Your Heart A Home the remastered sound gives the album a second wind. The guitars and bass get their due place in the recording. This second album finds Barnabas losing Monte Cooley and gaining two guitarists, Mick Donner and Kris Brauminger, who play quite proficiently. Keyboards become a staple element due to bassist Mann’s love for full arrangements. Find Your Heart A Home has a myriad of rock variation, from the hard rollicking to the blues-infused and even a bit of funkiness. Swordsman and Way Of Destruction are a couple of progressive rockers that still sound stellar even after.
Elizabeth and Barnabas use his powers of persuasion and the family treasure to restore the Collins Canning Company and Collinwood to its former glory, as Barnabas adjusts to modern life and falls for Victoria. Angelique, having survived through the centuries and now owner of rival Angel Bay Seafood, is still in love with Barnabas; to protect Victoria, Barnabas gives in to Angelique’s lust and they have gravity-defying sex in her office. Afterward, a remorseful Barnabas again rejects Angelique’s love. Angelique offers Barnabas her heart, which crumbles as she dies. He races to the cliff and finds Victoria, unwilling to live as a mortal with him, but he refuses to turn her into a vampire. The film was scored by long-time Burton collaborator Danny Elfman Track listing.
Barnabas put the kingdom first with possessions. His first recorded action is that he sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet (Acts 4:37). He also was acknowledged by Paul for supporting himself financially for his ministry instead of depending on churches (1 Corinthians 9:6). After Paul’s dramatic conversion, Barnabas courageously vouched for him when the Jerusalem church was suspicious that a former persecutor would want to join their ranks (Acts 9:26-31). Barnabas was a Christian leader and preacher (Acts 15:35)
A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes" is a song written and composed by Mack David, Al Hoffman and Jerry Livingston for the Walt Disney film Cinderella (1950). In the song, Cinderella (voiced by Ilene Woods) encourages her animal friends to never stop dreaming, and that theme continues throughout the entire story. The theme of the song was taken from Franz Liszt's Etude No. 9 Ricordanza of the Transcendental Etudes.
Barnabas could always find something good to encourage in people! So Acts 11:23 says, "When he came and saw the grace of God, he was glad. He had a good eye and a glad heart for the potential of grace. The church was new and imperfect, but Barnabas saw the work of grace and it made him glad. So a leader-maker has a good eye and a glad heart for the potential of grace. The Example of One of Our Missionaries. One of the most gifted persons in this regard that I know of is Barb Espland, one of our missionaries to the Philippines. When both of them are mentioned, it is now "Paul and Barnabas" not "Barnabas and Paul" (13:43, 46, 50; 15:2, 22, 35; except in Jerusalem where Barnabas is on his home turf, 15:12, 25; and in Lystra where Barnabas is called Zeus and Paul Hermes). In chapter 14 we get a glimpse of what their partnership looked like.
Barnabas’s action shows his humility and discernment. The text indicates that Barnabas’s overriding concerns were the needs of the people and the furtherance of the gospel. Yet he must have realized that Saul’s skill in debate and Saul’s incredible mind might overshadow his own qualities. Luke, however, gives no indication of jealousy on Barnabas’s part, only an indication of his desire to promote the name of the Lord Jesus. Barnabas offers the younger man a job: co-pastoring the dynamic Antioch believers.
