String Quartet Italian S. .has been added to your Cart. Berg's two-movement string quartet opus 3 was written in 1910 as a graduation exercise and was the composer's first extended effort in atonal composition. As with all of Berg, the romantic elements of the work are predominant. The two movements of this work are closely related and consist of variations and expansions of the same musical material. I haven't enjoyed a performance of Berg's Lyric Suite as much as this one since I wore out my old LP recording with the Juilliard Quartet. The Berg quartet is also well played, but the Wolf serenade is a poor choice as a filler. I would have preferred some of Berg's vocal music, . his 7 early songs, or some works for string quartet by Webern.

The Juilliard String Quartet is a classical music string quartet founded in 1946 at the Juilliard School in New York by William Schuman. The original members were violinists Robert Mann and Robert Koff, violist Raphael Hillyer and cellist Arthur Winograd. Current members are violinists Areta Zhulla and Ronald Copes, violist Roger Tapping, and cellist Astrid Schween. Areta Zhulla most recently joined the quartet, replacing Joseph Lin in September 2018
