Biography by Richie Unterberger. Lead guitarist on Elvis Presley's classic Sun recordings.

What’s the Point?!! R. Stevie Moore. What’s the Point?!! Tracklist.

Winfield Scott "Scotty" Moore III (December 27, 1931 – June 28, 2016) was an American guitarist and recording engineer. He is best known for backing Elvis Presley in the first part of his career, between 1954 and the beginning of Elvis's Hollywood years.

From left, Scotty Moore, Elvis Presley and Bill Black in 1955. Scotty Moore, a guitarist whose terse, bluesy licks on Elvis Presley’s early hits virtually created the rockabilly guitar style and established the guitar as a lead instrument in rock ’n’ roll, died on Tuesday at his home outside Nashville. He was 84. His death was confirmed by James L. Dickerson, Mr. Moore’s biographer and friend. In 1954, Mr. Moore was performing with a country group, Doug Poindexter and the Starlite Wranglers, and recording at Sun Records in Memphis when Sam Phillips, the label’s owner, asked him to audition a young singer his secretary kept mentioning

Scotty Moore, the pioneering rock guitarist whose sharp, graceful style helped Elvis Presley shape his revolutionary sound and inspired a generation of musicians that included Keith Richards, Jimmy Page and Bruce Springsteen, died Tuesday. Moore died at his home in Nashville, said biographer and friend James L. Dickerson, who confirmed the death through a family friend. As a musician, I consider him one of the co-founders of rock ‘n' roll because of the guitar licks that he invented, Dickerson said, calling Moore an icon.

Scotty Moore, the guitarist who helped Elvis Presley create his original, revolutionary rock ‘n’ roll sound at Sun Records, died yesterday (28) at the age of 84. Moore had been in poor health for some months, and died in his longtime home of Nashville. Elvis Presley wouldn’t have been Elvis Presley without Scotty Moore, said Jerry Phillips, the son of Elvis’ early producer, champion and Sun founder Sam Phillips. I think my dad would agree with that. You gotta remember, there were only three instruments on those things. Scotty, Bill and Elvis.

First let me say Scotty Moore is a national treasure. As always they have to go to England to be respected properly. Eric Clapton,Mark Knophler,Albert Lee and David Gilmore really put there hearts into i. ery well recorded and shot. Some of the other performers singing Elvis's songs are a mixed bag for m. ome have a lot of heart. and talent, some are kind of creepy in a lounge lizard sort of wa. would have liked more Scotty just playing guitar, but over all this is a very worthy purchase

He produced the "All the King's Men" album I believe and probably took all the shots we posted from this session in 2000. For the record, we're happy to see Gail and Karen in any pix and we're posting this one because we have it, not to appease any discontented "fan. Gail and Karen's behind the scenes contributions to the efforts of Scotty and DJ can never be overstated.
