The hour-long work requires a bass soloist, men's chorus, and large orchestra and is laid out in five movements, each a setting of a Yevgeny Yevtushenko poem. Tom Krause (bass-baritone), Philadelphia Mendelssohn Club Male Chorus, Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy. RCA SB6830, recorded January 1970. Alexander Vinogradov (bass), Huddersfield Choral Society, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vasily Petrenko.
