Bing Crosby's Greatest Hits. In 1977 (the year of Crosby's death), when MCA came to compile an album called Bing Crosby's Greatest Hits, it began by limiting its choices to the most successful decade of Crosby's career, from the late '30s to the late '40s. But even within that limitation, the label did not stick to the biggest hits. Some of them were here, to be sure: "Swinging on a Star" from the film Going My Way and the Andrews Sisters duet "Don't Fence Me In," both long-running chart-toppers and gold records; the 1947 re-recording of "White Christmas," which.

Try to forget the fact that Bing Crosby probably never had to record another song in his life after he immortalized "White Christmas. If you can do that, you'll find plenty more to like in this crooning Christmas collection. It contains his standard hits which have been recycled time and again on other anthologies. Most Bing-ologists will have all these songs in their collection, some of them many times over. This set will give you many hours of enjoyable listening and help you branch off into other Crosby CD's which includes his lesser-known vocals. Hopefully this collection will convince you that Bing's vocal mastery was unparalled. This album (Bing Crosby's "White Christmas") is a true Classic. My mother had the album on 78 rpm records.

What Jesus is to Christmas, Bing Crosby is to Christmas music. The Irish crooner's 1941 version of Jewish songwriter Irving Berlin's dreamy ballad "White Christmas" has sold 50 million copies, inspiring covers by everyone from Stiff Little Fingers to New Kids on the Block. Seven decades later, his vocal style remains the template for elegant ease and stately sentimentality.
