Green Fields is the third single from the 2007 self-titled record by The Good, The Bad and the Queen. Sung and written by Damon Albarn, it was first written and demoed after a night out with Marianne Faithful and Blur’s Alex James. That demo was given do Marianne and recorded in her 2005 album Before the Poison as Last Song, with different lyrics from Green Fields. The song ressurfaced during recording sessions in 2007 and ended up being rewritten, with lyrics about the making of the song itself. Green Fields" Track Info. Written By Paul Simonon & Damon Albarn.

The Good, the Bad & the Queen is the debut album by the English alternative rock supergroup The Good, the Bad & the Queen, comprising Damon Albarn, Paul Simonon, Simon Tong and Tony Allen and produced by Danger Mouse. The Good, the Bad & the Queen" is a song by The Good, the Bad & the Queen, and is the title song and final track on their 2007 debut album The Good, the Bad & the Queen (see 2007 in British music). A live version of the song recorded at The Tabernacle was also released as a B-side on the band's second single "Kingdom of Doom".

We saw the green fields turn into homes such lonely homes We saw the green fields turn into homes such lovely homes. Do what you want to do! I was digging up, sorting out, only to built a song alone till you came along but all my love was there just all for you And in the darkest time we crossed the line made a song cause all the talk was wrong and all you ever won can still be true. We saw the green fields turn into homes such lonely homes We saw the green fields turn into stone such lonely homes.

Watch the video for Merrie Land by the Good, the Bad & the Queen. If the impassioned invective of Merrie Land doesn’t exactly read like exquisite poetry on the page, Albarn has explained that, like Lou Reed, he often wrote these lyrics as ess prose. Even if his latterday output has gestured, rather than shouted – playing with an orchestra of Syrian musicians, getting funky with Gorillaz, or proffering elliptical melancholy on his solo albums – Albarn is not here to mince words. The album’s cover art features a 1950s-style image of a ventriloquist trying to silence his dummy; the dummy recurs in the videos, lending the entire project a cliched aesthetic whose creepiness is knowingly deployed, but overplayed. Just when you’re most of the way through the album, relaxing into the fact that you’ve got this far without mention of a maypole, the cloying Ribbons raises one up.
