Donald Byrd - Black Byrd download album

Black Byrd was state-of-the-art for its time, and it set a new standard for all future jazz/R&B/funk fusions - of which there were many. Byrd would continue to refine this sound on equally essential albums like Street Lady and the fantastic Places and Spaces, but Black Byrd stands as his groundbreaking signature statement.

Biography by Steve Huey. Leading bop trumpet stylist with biting, dynamic lines and a crackling sound, later a champion of jazz/R&B crossover during the 1970s.

Black Byrd is a 1973 album by Donald Byrd and the first of his Blue Note albums to be produced by Larry Mizell, assisted by his brother, former Motown producer Fonce. In the jazz funk idiom, it is among Blue Note Records' best selling album releases. The title of the album inspired the name of Byrd's apprentice group, The Blackbyrds. Donald Byrd - trumpet, flugelhorn, electric trumpet, vocals. Allen Curtis Barnes - flute, oboe, saxophone. Roger Glenn - saxophone, flute. Fonce Mizell - trumpet, vocals.

Blackjack (Donald Byrd album). Blackjack is an album by American trumpeter Donald Byrd featuring performances by Byrd with Sonny Red, Hank Mobley, Cedar Walton, Walter Booker, and Billy Higgins recorded in 1967 and released on the Blue Note label as BLP 4259. The CD reissue included one bonus track recorded in 1963.

Album · 1972 · 7 Songs. After releasing a pair of funky fusion albums on his own, former hard-bopping trumpeter Donald Byrd teamed up with Larry Mizell and his Motown hitmaker brother, Fonce, for one of the best groove-jazz albums of all time. Breezy and often quite beautiful, this radio-friendly 1973 release is full of wicked guitar riffing, buttery vocals, science-fiction synths, and, of course, first-class trumpet playing. Get down and dirty with "Slop Jar Blues" or croon along with the socially conscious "Where Are We Going?" Black Byrd Donald Byrd.
