Lieder ohne Worte - Song without Words.
Young Mendelssohn composed extensively for the piano. From early concertos and sonatas he quickly established his ‘mature’ style in works such as the Rondo capriccioso, and the Andante cantabile e Presto agitato. The masterpieces that followed include the famous Songs without Words/Lieder ohne Worte. On this complete recording, these piano 'songs' are played by Dutch pianist Frank van der Laar. 00:00:00 Andante con moto, in E Major, Op. 19 No. 1 00:03:50 Andante espressivo, in A Minor, Op.
Songs Without Words (Lieder ohne Worte) is a series of short lyrical piano pieces by the Romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn, written between 1829 and 1845. His sister Fanny Mendelssohn and other composers also wrote pieces in the same genre. The eight volumes of Songs Without Words, each consisting of six "songs" (Lieder), were written at various points throughout Mendelssohn's life, and were published separately.

Venetian Boat Song N. - O. 9 N. Spinning Song or Bee's Wedding - O. This is one of many Songs without Words (or "Lieder ohne Worte") composed by Mendelssohn. The "Songs without Words" were a popular form of expression for the composer, and he published a total of 48 of these piano pieces in 8 sets of 6 spread across his tragically short life as a composer. The song titles were added later by publishers rather than by the composer himself, and this one O. 3 N. has been called "Folk-Song".
