Ramones is the debut studio album by American punk rock band Ramones, released on April 23, 1976 by Sire Records. Fields agreed and convinced Craig Leon to produce Ramones, and the band recorded a demo for prospective record labels.

The Broadcast Archive. 100 Greatest Classic Rock Songs. The Greatest Seventies Album.

This 9-disc box set combines live performances broadcast on FM radio throughout their incredible journey of non-stop tours taking in over 2000 performances and releasing 14 studio albums, before deciding to disband after the Lollapalooza Festival in 1996. This is a must have for any fans of the Punk Rockers from New York, and is presented here in superb fidelity with background notes and rare images.

The Ramones released the band’s fourth studio album, Road To Ruin, 40 years ago this September. Dee Dee, Joey, and Johnny were joined for the first time by drummer Marky Ramone, who replaced founding member Tommy Ramone, who’d left to do more producing and writing for the band. It was also the album that introduced a nation of pinheads to the all-time Ramones’ classic I Wanna Be Sedated. To celebrate the milestone, Rhino will release two versions on September 21, a day before the anniversary of the album’s original release on September 22, 1978.

This album was unusual on several counts. For starters, it was a soundtrack (for Sam Peckinpah’s movie of the same title), a first venture of its kind for Bob Dylan. For another, it was Dylan’s first new LP in three years - he hadn’t been heard from in any form other than the single George Jackson, his appearance at the Bangladesh benefit concert in 1971, in all of that time. The film featured the punk rock group The Ramones. It also includes performances by other artists. However it did not include the song Blue Angel which was cut from the original broadcast for the same reason.

Green Day, the Ramones, Patti Smith and more make the punk album list. Ebet ty, Ian ty, Dick ty. Punk rock started in 1976 on New York’s Bowery, when four cretins from Queens came up with a mutant strain of blitzkrieg bubblegum. If Ramones was Year Zero for punk rock, it didn’t come without precedent, so we included essential forebears like the Stooges, the New York Dolls, Pere Ubu and Patti Smith, artists who were punk in spirit (if not always entirely in sound) before the style really had a name. We didn’t get too fussy about all the old but really, what is punk? debates either.
