Facets is a self-published studio album by American singer-songwriter Jim Croce, released in 1966. Croce's parents were certain that Jim would fail completely at selling the record, and realizing that he couldn't support his family as a singer, would abandon music and finish his college education

Life and Times is the fourth studio album by American singer-songwriter Jim Croce, released in 1973. The album contains the Billboard chart hit "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown", one of Croce's most successful songs Contents. It was released in 1973 as the first single from his album Life and it reached a peak of on the Billboard Hot 100, spending ten weeks on the chart. The song describes a relationship between the narrator and his lover, and the ultimatum that the narrator is willing to move on from their former love.

They hoped that he would give up music after the album failed, and use his college education to pursue a "respectable" profession. However, the album proved a success, with every copy sold. From the mid-1960s to early 1970s, Croce performed with his wife as a duo.

The followup album, Life and Times contained the song "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown", which was the only No. 1 hit he had during his lifetime. The day before the lead single to his fourth album, I Got a Name, was released, Croce and Muehleisen were killed. His music continued to chart throughout the 1970s following his death. His wife, Ingrid Croce, was his early songwriting partner and she continued to write and record after his death, and his son A. J. Croce himself became a singer-songwriter in the 1990s.

In 1973 Jim Croce found the pinnacle of his career success and all the bedlam and time on the road which goes along with such success. So, after releasing the successful album Life and Times and finishing the recording for the follow-up, I Got a Name, Croce decided he would retire from music to spend some valuable time with his family following that album’s tour. Unfortunately, Croce was killed in a plane crash on September 20, 1973, following a gig on the Life and Times tour in Louisiana.

Jim Croce wrote this song the night that he found out his wife, Ingrid, was pregnant. The couple had been married for five years, and Ingrid found out she was pregnant when she went to a fertility specialist. She recalls a mix of terror and delight in Jim's reaction when she told him the news. The child was a boy named Adrian, who grew up to become the singer-songwriter . The album had already yielded the title track and "Operator (That's Not the Way It Feels). His second LP, Life And Times, had given Croce his first single, "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown. Time In A Bottle" became a hit over a year after it was first released when it was used in the ABC made-for-TV movie She Lives, about a woman dying of cancer. The song's producer, Terry Cashman, was less than thrilled with the idea of recycling old songs, but ABC Records management loved the idea and OK'ed the use of the tune in She Lives.
