The Rakes were an English indie rock band formed in London in 2003. The band cited in their influences the Specials, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Pulp. The band split up in October 2009, after 6 years.

At the time of the band splitting in October 2009, the band line-up consisted of Alan Donohoe (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Matthew Swinnerton (lead guitar), Jamie Hornsmith (bass) and Lasse Petersen (drums). The Rakes' discography consisted of three studio albums, one EP and nine singles. The Rakes released their debut studio album, Capture/Release, in the UK in August 2005 on V2 Records.

Releasing their debut album Capture/Release in 2005, The Rakes were the talk of the Reading and Leeds Festival after joining forces with Indie elites such as Bloc Party and Maxïmo Park in the NME Tent. They recently released their third album Klang which included the singles 1989 and That's the Reason.
