Pecola are one of the most threatening bands to come out of Toronto, and this album demonstrates their attitude through what is best described as math punk with a twist of demented blues. Vocalist/bassist Craig Thompson spits out his best Iggy Pop slurs on "Song and "You Left the Fucking Stereo O. As a band, Pecola switches gears at every turn, whether it be the 6/4 time signature of "The Bullets Inside Are Very Hot. Why Do I Feel So Cold?" or the ongoing tempo shifts of "Sugarcane Is Aspartame
Formed around 1994, Pecola made a number of compilation appearances, put out a couple singles or so, and released an excellent 12 inch EP entitled Dat Hoang through Slipped Disc & Skull Geek. All of that was leading up to their one and sadly final album The Mexican, which was released in 1999 through Kosher Rock.

Pecola is an orphaned penguin who lives with Pecolias, his grandfather. Cube Town is a small, isolated coastal village which contains an art museum, a beach, a lighthouse and a canal. It is located adjacent to Crescent Bay surrounded by the Rookery Mountains coastal range and serviced by regular ships (including a weekly freighter) which deliver mail, food and other supplies, as well as occasional tourists from a nearby metropolis named Cubic City. Pecola - A penguin who brings excitement to the otherwise dull and boring town. Unlike his fellow penguins, Pecola cannot swim. His catchphrases include "Flapping Flippers!" and "Let's Get Hopping!"
