Rock Me Baby" is a blues standard that has become one of the most recorded blues songs of all time. It originated as "Rockin' and Rollin'", a 1951 song by Lil' Son Jackson, itself inspired by earlier blues. Renditions by Muddy Waters and . King made the song well-known. King's recording of "Rock Me Baby" was released in 1964, it became his first single to reach the Top 40 in Billboard magazine's Hot 100 chart.

Rock Me Baby is the second solo album release from David Cassidy. It was released in 1972 and produced by Wes Farrell on Bell Records. It contains one song written by Cassidy called "Two Time Loser" and a song he co-wrote with Kim Carnes entitled "Song for a Rainy Day". The album peaked at in the UK album charts and featured the single "How Can I Be Sure"

Former teen idol David Cassidy's second solo album for Bell Records is an attempt at blue-eyed soul that, for the most part, works well. Rock Me Baby was more expressive than anything he was allowed to record on the Partridge Family sessions. These 11 tracks show off Cassidy's vocal range (and his personal taste in music), but there's nothing as catchy here as on the Partridge Family's albums; but, then again, that was the point
