rock outfit Long-View serves up an impressive debut album that owes as much to Coldplay as it does to Catherine Wheel. Similarities to the latter undoubtedly explain Matt Pinfield's fascination, as the former WHTG radio host and MTV talent turned Columbia Records A&R guy inked the band to a Stateside deal
Mercury (CD, Album, Promo). 14th Floor Records, 4:45 Recordings.
Long-View is a Christian band whose sound is as far from the & sound as Silverchair was (distance-wise) from the Seattle sound. Mercury is the perfect album for those who think that Snow Patrol or Keane are too adventurous and imaginative. The true star of Long-View’s album is Rick Parashar, the producer of Pearl Jam’s debut Ten, as well as work from Temple of the Dog, various MTV collections, as well as some of today’s bland pop-rockers
UK Indie newcomers Longview release their debut album on the back of their recent single "Further". One of my favourite singles of the year, I was expecting great things from the album. Sadly, Mercury, is a disappointment. The album opens with "Further". It's got all the ingredients required to get all true indie fans excited. Jingly jangly guitars, a memorable chorus that demands to be sung along to and that indefinable anthemic je ne sais quoi!
Longview are a Manchester band that have been on the verge for a while. They originally brought this album out in 2003 and it flopped, which was a major surprise to the band and the record label as their was a lot of time spent on production etc. Anyhow, the album got re-produced, re released and faired much better in the summer of 2005, and they even managed a world tour support slot with Embrace. Many critics compared this album to U2’s mighty Joshua Tree
