But as any true pop stan knows, the smashes only ever tell half of an artist's story. The real stuff of cult devotion is found in the album tracks, the soundtrack and compilation contributions, the bonus tracks - the deep cuts. Without them, the pop star is only the sum total of what the public already knows about them. With them, they become three-dimensional artists, worthy of near-worship.

Dream pop, however, is a little different. The term has meant different things to different audiences at different times, because it was always more of a descriptor than a proper genre. So in assembling this list, we took the descriptive quality of the term and ran with it, assembling a list of 30 records that felt like they belonged together even as they came from different scenes, eras, and geographic locations. Despite the wide range of music here, there are certain qualities that unite these records: atmosphere, intimacy, a light coating of psychedelia, and, yes, dreaminess.

Basically, pop punk has had a very good 2016. Another year, another self-titled Weezer album we'll all just refer to by the colour of the cover. Thankfully, this one builds off the momentum of 2014's Everything Will Be Alright In The End to deliver a collection more in line with the 'Green' album than the 'Red' album. Rivers and co certainly sound re-energised, with producer Jake Sinclair giving the tunes a modern edge, having handled the recent output of 5SOS, FOB and Panic! to name a few.

The New York Times reports that Iggy Pop and Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme made a now-not-so-secret album, slated to drop March 18, and are prepping their first round of promotional shows. Titled Post Pop Depression, the nine-track project was put together independently in a total of three weeks, with the help of Dean Fertita, from QOTSA; Matt Helders, from Arctic Monkeys; and other still-unnamed musicians.

Great clarity and dynamic range. Noticeably a digital. At around the same time, about 1985, we also used Bop til You Drop, by Ry Cooder as a demo disc - excellent in similar ways to The Nightfly, but different genre of music. Great clarity and dynamic range. I really love two albums by Grace Jones - Nightclubbing and Living My Life - both of which are built on Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare's drums and bass and beautifully engineered and co-produced by Alex Sadkin. Very clean recordings, nice dynamic range.
